July 2006 - Rape and Wrinkles

Question

My daughter, aged 24 was raped some time ago and now she is facing the court case and is terrified of the memories that will be awakened, facing the man that raped her and also the questioning that she will have to under go.

It is important to her that the man does go to trail and hopefully to jail for what he has done to her and also to stop it happening to anyone else. She is worried also that if she takes any tablets from the doctor it will cloud her memory of the event. Is there any thing that can help her to get through the court case or is there a way that I can help her?

Answer:

Yes there is. You have a number of options, the first would be Thought Field Therapy and you can easily learn a technique that would help her if she feels unable to attend a session for herself. The great thing about TFT is that it helps to take away the emotional upset but not the memory. In fact some people can remember past negative events more clearly as the emotion is removed and they are able to speak of the past trauma without any upset.  Another option would be for her to have some hypnosis sessions again to remove the trauma but not the memory of the event, hypnosis she would have to attend herself. In both cases she could learn simple ‘tools’ to help her remain both calm and relaxed through this new ‘trauma’.

Question

I read recently that hypnosis can help to get rid of wrinkles a bit like a ‘face lift’ but without the surgery. I have lots of lines on my brow. How can this work?

Answer:

First you need to understand how lines and wrinkles can be formed on the face. Perhaps from keeping the facial muscles too long in a set position an example of this might be frowning too much or with stress the face ‘screwed up’ too long with worry or stress. Hypnosis can help someone relax and feel less stressed and also be more aware of their facial movement so they are able to counteract the ‘frown’. If you ask the majority of people who seem to have fewer lines or wrinkles the chances are they are either less stressed or they are able to control their stress. Perhaps even they might be using self-hypnosis or meditation all of which can be of benefit. This would not be a miracle cure as having some lines can be the whole character of the face. The other side of the coin that if you were particularly concerned about your expression lines Hypnosis can help you to not be ‘bothered’ by them, could be a win, win situation!
