September 2006 - Paul Mckenna and TFT

Question

I have seen Paul McKenna on television using some form of ‘Tapping’ can you tell me a bit more about this?

Answer:

The ‘Tapping’ that Paul uses is ‘Thought Field Therapy’ it is a simple and straightforward technique for resolving emotional and psychological issues. TFT utilises acupressure points which you activate by simply tapping them with the fingertips while thinking about the specific problem. This process has the capability of disabling and often completely eliminating troublesome emotional and physical responses.

Question

How will TFT help me?

Answer:

I believe TFT is the most effective psychotherapy ever discovered or devised.  Time after time, it has proven to be extremely successful in treating fears, phobias, anxiety, trauma (PTSD), OCD, physical pain and many other emotional problems that can be life limiting, stifle personal performance and act as barriers to healing.

Question

Is TFT related in any way to hypnosis?

Answer:

No. There is no relationship or similarity between hypnosis and TFT. With TFT, belief is NOT necessary for the therapy to work.  TFT has repeatedly surprised dubious sceptics who did not ‘believe’ in TFT. These former sceptics found that TFT worked without their personal belief in it – just as antibiotics do not depend on the belief of the person taking them in order to be effective. With TFT, belief does not enter into the process.

Question

What happens during a TFT treatment?

Answer:

I instruct you to tap a series or pre-determined points on the body in a precise order. This is done while you are thinking of the problem.  Typically there is a significant reduction of the problem results.

Question

Is TFT compatible with other types of therapies?

Answer:

Yes, TFT is a great addition to any therapeutic plan or regimen and also functions as a stand alone therapy.

Question

Is TFT related to Energy Psychology?

Answer:

No Energy psychology is a very loose term and includes many procedures. TFT would be more properly called Information Psychology.

Question

How effective is TFT?

Answer:

TFT is not a band-aid therapy. It offers real, measurable and permanent relief from a variety of problems.  It has been referred to as ‘The Power Therapy of the 21st Centaury’ because of its high degree of effectiveness. Most of the most common phobias and fears can be completely eliminated in five minutes or less! That is not to say that every problem responds as quickly. Some problems require repeated treatments and corresponding shifts in lifestyle. However, most clients experience a significant improvement of the problem in the very first session.

Question

What if the problem comes back?

Answer:

Occasionally, a problem that has yielded successfully to a treatment will recur. If that should happen, call your therapist. Not only will your therapist be able to successfully treat the problem again but will also be able to start the process of determining why it returned. Once the correct reason has been determined, it is often a simple matter to eliminate it permanently.

Question

How do I know that a therapist is qualified to use TFT with me?

Answer:

It is important that the therapist is a member of the ATFT or BTFTA, I am a member of both, and they should have a certificate signed by an ATFT approved trainer. I was lucky enough to do my training with Roger Callahan who developed TFT.
