A Case Study: Migraine and HeadachesMary came to me some months ago as she was having terrible headaches, she had been to the doctors and they were unable to find the cause so all they could do was give her pain killers. Mary decided that she did not want to keep taking the tablets and she wanted help in dealing with the pain so that so might be back in control of her life as opposed to the headaches controlling her. I always say that being a therapist means that you have to be a good detective. So I ask some medical questions, when the migraines started, what generally triggers them, what part of the day are the migraines most common etc. Once I had this information I was able to start building a picture and a knowledge of Mary and her life and how I could help her. As Mary was sitting with me she started to get a headache which I was able to help her clear. With Mary’s help I was able to identify certain toxins that she was sensitive to. You do not need to be allergic to something for it to have a negative effect on your life you may just be sensitive to certain toxins for a certain time. I suggested that Mary cut back on the toxins that she was sensitive to for a period of 3 months to see how she coped with headaches. While Mary was with me I asked her how much the headaches bothered her out of 10 and 10 being the worst. Her answer was 10 but I also identified that she felt angry about the headaches and also guilty that they were affecting her family and work life. I treated Mary for how much the headaches ‘bothered’ her and also the anger and guilt. As there was some time left in the session I also worked with Mary to remove some more negative emotions that had happened in the past. Mary left out session with ‘tools’ to help her if the headaches started again, some suggestions of changes that she could make and strict instructions to ring me if she needed to. Mainly, if the headaches returned and she was not able to get rid of them with the tools that I had given her. There was another session booked for the following week. At the next session Mary told me that the level of the headache was much reduced and as soon as she started to get a headache she used the ‘tools’ to stop it with minutes. The amount of headaches that she had been getting was reduced by about 50% and she was not feeling ‘bothered’ by them as she felt she was now able to deal with them. The next step for me was to double check everything that Mary was doing and was able to follow my suggestions easily, she was. Mary was starting to feel much more ‘balanced’ and back in control. There were still a few issues and they were dealt with and then I used hypnosis to help Mary even more. The third and final session and Mary came in beaming she said that she had no headaches all week! She was feeling great. Wonderful! I again checked that there were no more issues that had cropped up and again used hypnosis to help Mary start with the rest of her new life. I spoke with Mary a few weeks ago and she said she was still good and NO headaches. CALL me NOW - I can help! |
